About Mountain Barn Houses
Welcome to Mountain Barn Houses – located in Torneiros, a little village hidden behind mountains. Here your day starts with a warm greeting by the sun, framed by a breathtaking view of the mountain range and a melody sung by the birds. We, Sarah and Tiago, want to leave our city lives behind and follow our family roots by sharing our passion for this magical place with you.
Our five holiday homes will host two guests each, respecting the local tradition of stone walls and orange roofs, fitting perfectly into the picture of the village. Historic charm on the outside combines with bright and spacious scandinavian design on the inside. Romantic getaway or relaxing time out: Mountain Barn Houses will create your most wonderful holiday experience.

We believe that sustainability is the key for the future of our planet. This is why we will have low energy consumption houses making the most of what nature provides and equip them with timeless high-quality designer furniture with FSC certification.

Luxury can have many meanings, but for us it’s measured in the experience that you will have staying in one of our barn houses: bright and spacious rooms, fully equipped kitchen, large pool, spa area with sauna and scandinavian hot tub, access to an organic vegetable garden as well as service and amenities like living in a five star hotel.

Mountain trails ask for long hikes, a morning jog or exploring the area by bike. Just a short drive away you can visit pre-roman settlements, discover waterfalls and – with a little bit of luck – even find wild horses! Get to know the local river in a canoe, join a climbing experience or if you are a real thrill seeker you can fly over the mountain valley on one of the biggest ziplines in Europe.
Wonderful Location
Torneiros is situated in the north of Portugal, close to the Spanish border, just an hour and thirty minutes drive from Porto airport. With 903m above sea level it invites you to take a deep breath of pure air. In the middle of the best-known thermal region of Portugal you will also find that most spring water is bottled here. Today Torneiros has around 70 residents, being founded 300 years ago by our ancestors. It doesn’t surprise us that they chose this place to settle, as it is a true paradise on earth: surrounded by forest and fields providing everything for a self-sustainable life.
This is us
We are Sarah (32) and Tiago (37), a German-Portuguese couple, who got married on August 13th 2021 in Portugal. Currently we are living in Cologne, Germany with our three rescued animals: Heidi, our dog, Mona, the old, three-legged cat and Little One, our younger cat, troublemaker and best friend of Heidi. Sarah is working as a journalist for tv productions and Tiago as a tourguide for luxurious cruises. We love to be in nature and wish to go back to our roots. Our future children should have the chance to grow up on the countryside, playing in the mud and learning how to care for the planet, that’s why moving from a big city to a very tiny village is so important to us. We want to do good for the environment, the animals and our health. Our goal is to create a place that combines our values – for a sustainable future: For you, for us and our families!
